Aging doesn’t have to be complicated — with these helpful tips, it can be a breeze.

1) Keep Active – It’s good for your body and mind.

You don’t have to go out and run a marathon, but keeping active as you age is essential for your overall health. Regular exercise helps keep your bones and muscles strong, reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes and can even help improve your cognitive function. So get out there and take a brisk walk around the block, go for a swim or sign up for a yoga class. Just make sure you’re getting some moderate exercise every day. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week.

2) Eat Right – Choose healthy foods that nourish your body.

As we age, it’s important to pay attention to our diet and ensure we’re eating foods that are good for our health. Choose nutrient-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats. These will help keep your energy levels up and your mind sharp. Avoid processed foods and excessive sugar, leading to weight gain and other health problems. Instead, build a sustainable diet that you both enjoy and can stick to. And if you’re not great at cooking, you have plenty of options.

  • Create a relaxing environment – Make sure your bedroom is calm, dark, quiet and cool.
  • Limit screen time – Avoid screens (TV, laptops, phones) for at least an hour before bedtime.

5) Take Time for Relaxation – It can help reduce stress and promote healing.

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s important to take some time out for yourself and relax. Some of us might think that because we’re retired or working reduced hours, we have less stress in our lives. But stress can come from many different areas, such as caring for grandchildren or dealing with financial concerns. So whether reading a book, taking a bath or spending time in nature, find what works for you and make relaxation a priority.
